گاؤں کے بیچوں بیچ ایک بہت پرانا نیم کا درخت تھا۔
اس درخت کی عمر کسی کو معلوم نہ تھی۔ بزرگ کہتے تھے کہ جب وہ بچے تھے تب بھی یہ درخت اتنا ہی بڑا تھا۔
اس کے نیچے کبھی پنچایت بیٹھتی، کبھی مسافر سستانے کے لیے رک جاتے اور شام کے وقت بچے کھیلتے۔
مگر اس درخت کے ساتھ ایک ایسی کہانی بھی جڑی تھی جسے گاؤں کے چند بوڑھے لوگ آج تک یاد کرتے تھے۔
یہ کہانی سلیم اور عائشہ کی تھی۔
سلیم ایک غریب کسان کا بیٹا تھا۔ دن بھر کھیت میں کام کرتا اور شام کو اسی نیم کے درخت کے نیچے آ کر بیٹھ جاتا۔
عائشہ گاؤں کے سب سے بڑے زمیندار کی بیٹی تھی۔
ایک دن عائشہ نے سلیم کو درخت کے نیچے بیٹھے دیکھا۔
“تم روز یہاں کیوں بیٹھتے ہو؟”
سلیم نے مسکرا کر جواب دیا:
“یہ جگہ میری ہے۔”
عائشہ ہنس پڑی۔
“یہ درخت تمہارے باپ کا ہے؟”
“نہیں۔”
“پھر؟”
سلیم نے درخت کی طرف دیکھا۔
“یہ درخت سب کا ہے۔”
