“Bhool Bhullaiyan” by Dr. Tahreem Jameel is a psychological and moral-driven short Urdu novelette that explores the dangers of constant ingratitude and the awakening of a negligent soul. The story follows Ajmal, an exhausted office worker who spends his entire day complaining, cursing his job, and expressing deep discontent with his life after facing a tough day at the office and a sudden motorcycle breakdown. Walking home through dark, deserted streets, he accidentally stumbles and enters a surreal, nightmarish maze where time and direction loop endlessly.
Within this terrifying dimension, Ajmal encounters horrific visions, including a bleeding headless apparition, before escaping into a dense, dark forest. Exhausted, he falls asleep, only to be captured by a remote, primitive tribe that mistakes him for a sacrificial meal. Bound, stripped, and placed over a blazing fire, Ajmal experiences excruciating pain and absolute terror.
In his final moments of despair, he intensely repents his lifelong habit of ingratitude, shedding tears of profound regret. Suddenly, the nightmare shatters, and he wakes up back in his office to find his colleague, Anwar, splashing water on his face to wake him from a deep, stress-induced daydream. Shaken to his core, Ajmal returns home a completely transformed man, deeply grateful to God for the blessings of his normal, comfortable life.

دیوانہ وار وہ ہر گلی کوچے میں چکر کاٹتا رہا، مگر رستہ ایک ہی مدار میں گھومتا، واپس اسی محور پہ آنکلتا جہاں سے وہ چلنا شروع کرتا۔
وحشت کے مارے وہ سیدھی سڑک پر دوڑنے لگا۔ تھوڑی ہی مسافت طے کی تھی کہ اچانک اسے سڑک پہ کسی انسان کا سایہ دکھائی دیا۔
دل میں مدھم سی امید جاگی۔ تیز قدموں بھاگتا اجمل اس آدمی سے کچھ فاصلے پر اس کی جھلک دیکھتا اجمل پل بھر کو ساکت ہوگیا۔ آدھی گردن دھڑ سے لٹکائے وہ آدمی خون کے فوارے اپنے پیچھے ٹپکاتا کچھوے کی سی چال چلتا اسی کی جانب چلا آرہا تھا۔
مارے خوف کے اجمل بآواز بلند کلمہ پڑھنے لگا۔ چند لمحوں پہلے جو ناشکری کے کلمات اس کی زبان سے رواں تھے، وہ اب دکھ اور فریاد کی صورت بدل گئے۔ اللہ سے پناہ طلب کرتا اجمل خوف کی عجیب کیفیت میں مبتلا تھا۔
